Over 20 food companies based in and around the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park took advantage of the opportunity to get some expert advice on the 4 June by attending the first Loch Lomond Food Clinic. Professor Richard Tester of Glasgow Caledonian University’s Food Science department was on hand during the lunchtime drop-in session at the Cruin Restaurant on the banks of Loch Lomond to offer advice on food labelling, nutritional analysis, shelf life testing and other food safety advice.
Access to this specialist knowledge from Glasgow Caledonian University’s food technology experts is available though KIT-OUT the Park www.kit-out.org, an initiative supported by the Scottish Government’s SEEKIT technology transfer programme.
Some of the food manufacturers who dropped in had the chance to discuss new packaging options for their products with Murray Packaging Company which was demonstrating its food packing machinery at the event.
Whilst enjoying a buffet lunch prepared from mostly locally sourced produce, delegates attending the event also had the opportunity to visit stands offering information on grant support available to local food companies, as well as general business development assistance on offer from West Dunbartonshire Council, Stirling Enterprise Partnership and ICASS.
Derek Gallaher, KIT-OUT the Park’s Project Manager commented, “It is great to see so many innovative, enterprising businesses here today wanting to take advantage of the expert advice available to them. I am really encouraged to see their passion for using high quality Scottish ingredients in their products. Hopefully we can help them take their products to new and bigger markets”
